About Lena
Some of the most interesting things happening in artificial intelligence don’t begin with a product launch. They begin with a repository.
I cover the open-source side of AI: open-weight models, developer tools, GitHub projects, Hugging Face releases, inference frameworks, datasets, and the communities building technology outside traditional closed platforms.
What I find fascinating about open source is how quickly experimentation can spread. A research idea can appear one day, become a public project the next, and soon be used by thousands of developers around the world.
But popularity doesn’t automatically mean something is useful. When I look at a new project, I want to understand what it actually enables, how developers can use it, what limitations exist, and whether it represents a meaningful improvement over what already exists.
My goal is to make the fast-moving open AI ecosystem easier to follow for both developers and curious readers.
Sometimes the next major AI idea doesn’t arrive through a keynote. Sometimes someone simply pushes it to GitHub.
